Dear brothers and sisters,

A little over a week ago, I sent out an update on the peace situation in Ethiopia requesting for your prayer for a successful peace talk that was underway in South Africa. I am here to thank you for your prayers and ask you to join us in praising God for the pleasantly surprising outcome of the negotiation! The parties have reached an “Agreement for Lasting Peace through a Permanent Cessation of Hostilities” on November 2nd, just a day before the second year mark of the conflict.

This glimpse of hope has ignited so much joy and optimism in the country including in the Tigray region. But it also brings some level of nervousness due to the odds on the ground and the uncertainties in the future. So much loss and damage has been done to people’s lives, the economy and the very fabric of the country. Unspeakable atrocities and devastation have been committed. The wounds are still open, pain runs deep, and emotions are extremely high. These pose a significant challenge to the peace process, in addition to serious concerns of possible sabotage in the implementation of the deal by disgruntled individuals or groups on both sides. That makes the peace deal very fragile and delicate.

Nevertheless, today’s comfort and tomorrow’s confidence are still only secure in the hands of the LORD Almighty. That is where your continued prayers and petitions on behalf of the church here and the people of Ethiopia remain monumental.

God bless you all!

Your brother,
