On Friday, April 9th, 2021 the once dormant La Soufrière volcano began erupting explosively resulting in the evacuation of some 20,000 residents from along the North Eastern and North Western Coast of the Island. Eruptions continue intermittently with the last one occurring on April 22nd. The impact has been devastating, as the resulting heavy ash deposits, pyroclastic flows, and mudflows are causing significant damage to homes, roads, and agriculture.

Many are now living in a highly volatile situation in an atmosphere of uncertainty. The nature of this disaster can last for an extended time. Some 16,000 people have been directly affected by the volcanic eruption, with almost all of St. Vincent’s 110,600 population indirectly affected by ashfall and water restrictions.
""

The path therefore to social and economic recovery is deemed to be long and difficult, as about 20% of the island’s population has been displaced and livelihoods have been suspended. This has exacerbated the hardships that were already being felt by the ongoing restrictions caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Thankfully, the 26 disciples residing in the country are safe for now although somewhat uncertain about the future, as there is no definite indication that the eruptions are over.

There are thousands in public and private shelters across the country whose daily needs have to be provided for and who are unsure as to when and if they will be able to return to their homes.

Although many countries and organizations have been sending much-needed aid to help relieve the hardship, there is still much work to be done in getting the logistics right, for the timely and equitable distribution of aid to those most affected.
""

HOPE worldwide has reached out to us and is organizing to send some supplies and funds to the church to assist with the urgent and immediate priority needs. Our small faithful fellowship here is partnering with HOPE worldwide Trinidad and Tobago and is seeking to partner with other local NGOs to identify and serve the most vulnerable.

Please be praying for the eruptions to end soon and for ease of our current suffering. Pray also that the church will be able to help serve those in need in a tangible way, reflecting the image of our Lord Jesus Christ.

We thank those who have stood with us and who continue to stand with us throughout this disaster. We are extremely grateful and we look forward to your continued support.
