This class will define how to recognize and manage burnout in church staff and lay leaders. The terms \u201ccompassion fatigue\u201d and \u201csecondary stress\u201d will be defined, as they pertain to long-time church leaders. Practical steps for self-care (to mitigate and prevent burnout) will be discussed, including \u201cministry landmines\u201d (avoiding transference\/countertransference, setting boundaries, not enabling church members, etc).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Michael Shapiro is the Director of Behavioral Medicine at Duke Regional Area Health Education Center in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Dr. Mary Shapiro is the Director of the ADHD clinic at the same facility. Together they have lectured on topics like parenting, marriage, adoption, and mental health issues in a Christian context.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
