I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have kept the faith. [8] Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me but also to all who have longed for his appearing. Timothy 4:6-8 NIV

Teeshla Morgan Curtis poured out her life in service to Christ and others for 30 short years before succumbing to colon cancer on August 15, 2020.

Born to Doris Levon Morgan in Cary, NC on February 2, 1972. Teeshla stretched her young adult wings by choosing to attend Georgetown University in Washington DC. Majoring in sociology, her dream initially focused on improving life for people of color. She met other students from the Washington DC International Church of Christ where she realized Jesus Christ is the answer to her earnest concern for her life and for all mankind. She decided to devote her life to Christ and was baptized in December 1990.

After graduating from Georgetown, Teeshla moved to Philadelphia with her sister in Christ, Dawn Ferry. There she became an active part of the ministry in the Philadelphia Church of Christ as well as an employee of HOPE worldwide, a nonprofit commonly supported by the ICOC around the world. How at the time was a 5 Star NGO serving in various third world countries all around the world.

Teeshla moved in her job serving the needy to a subsidiary location of HOPEww, in Columbia, SC in the winter of 2004. Again, she devoted herself to Christ in being an active member of the Columbia Church of Christ. There she met the love of her life, Allen Curtis, a single dad and member of the church. They married on June 14, 2008. She also became dearly loved step-mom to teen boys, David and Jon. The boys started college and the young married couple decided to fill their empty nest by pursuing the dream of adopting 3 young girls from India. After a battle of 5 years of red tape, documentation and constant prayer they were finally able to bring their three daughters, Nisha, Morgan and Reagan, home.

Tragedy struck in May 2018 when a visit to a walk-in emergency clinic resulted in the shocking news of a bowel obstruction that, when tested, proved to be stage 4 colon cancer. Thus began a two-year battle for the newly established family. Teeshla endured surgery, chemotherapy, and experimental therapy but cancer came roaring back each time with a vengeance. The family received amazing support from the church family, particularly their family group led by Jim and JoEllen Amick. Teeshla’s boss at a new job at the non-profit, C-TAC, Marisette Hassan, also gave the family much-needed support.

Allen and Teeshla opened a GroupMe account called TeamTeeshla where they got so much online encouragement from Their friends all over the world. All of us that love the Curtis’s have been amazed by the faith, endurance, prayers, and joy that have filled the lives of the family these past two years.

One of Tee’s deepest desires was to live to see her first grandchild born. The picture below is Teeshla with her grandson, Parker, born in June 2020.
