Many youth leaders and parents have struggled with how to best serve middle school kids who are “too old” for the children’s ministry and “too young” for the teen ministry. The middle school years are a pivotal time of physical and emotional development in terms of identity, relationships, and spiritual awareness.
Scatter What Matters is a virtual platform that hosts a comprehensive, intentionally designed, three-year middle school ministry curriculum created for church use. The Bible-centered approach of the curriculum instills Christian fundamentals and develops the ability for our middle schoolers to think critically about our world.
There are 45 lessons for each year, for a total of 135 lessons. Each lesson comes ready to teach “out of the box” with an easy-to-follow lesson, PowerPoint, and a summary graphic for parents. Every lesson includes an activity or game, tailor-made to augment the main lesson.
It took the talents of many disciples in the Seattle Church of Christ to bring the vision of this curriculum into reality. Then, to grow the impact of this product, the project owners partnered with jOt Creative to design the www.ScatterWhatMatters.com website, which launched in September of 2022. Today, Scatter What Matters has registered users representing over 35 different churches in the United States, Canada, Australia, India, the Philippines, Singapore, South Africa, and the Dominican Republic!
Thankfully, by the grace of God, this labor of love is growing into something useful for many around the world who are engaged in teaching our middle schoolers. Please feel free to share this free resource with others you think will benefit. As Paul said in 1 Corinthians 3:6-7, “I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow. So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow.”
