In July of 1994 a group of disciples began a journey of faith in helping to start the Greater Hartford Church of Christ. With God and the faith of those few disciples, the church in Hartford has grown to over 310 disciples in three regions. Disciples have also gone on from Hartford to serve as missionaries in Germany, China, Providence, and Burlington, Vermont. On July 13th and 14th, the church came together to celebrate all that God has done over the last 25 years.
The weekend started with a family fun day at Lyman Orchards. Fun was had by all except the ministers who were mercilessly dunked in the dunk tank. Several generations enjoyed vibrant fellowship. The weekend of fun and family was capped off with a faith-building service. The original mission team took the stage first and then Gary and Gail Sciascia, who now lead the Phoenix church, shared their hearts for communion. The Sweeneys, the first couple to be appointed as evangelist and women’s ministry, shared for our offering. They currently serve in the LA church. The service was closed out in powerful fashion as Jimmy Allen, who along with his wife Anita helped plant the church Hartford, preached from Luke 5. We were exhorted to “display our mats” and value the same things that God values, our salvation.
As we celebrated the last quarter century of God’s grace, we also looked forward to the next 25 years. Our prayer is that God would multiply our congregation six-fold once again. To God be the glory.
