Haiti was hit by a 7.2-magnitude earthquake on Saturday, Aug 14. Over 1,400 people were killed and several thousand injured. At least 30,000 homes have been destroyed or badly damaged. HOPE worldwide has been in constant communication with our partners in Haiti and has been working to provide support during this time of devastation.
We received the following update from HOPEww Haiti on two of their local church partners:
- Les Irois Church of Christ & Les Cayes Church of Christ members were all unharmed but several have lost family members in their community.
- The Les Irois Church of Christ building was directly affected by the earthquake.
- Of the 51 members in the Les Cayes Church of Christ, 40 of them have immediate shelter, food and water needs.
HOPEww is sending immediate food and water aid and is working with HOPEww Haiti on assessing the needs and developing a long-term recovery plan which will include economic empowerment and capacity building that will lessen the impacts of future disasters. Thank you to all who have been praying for Haiti and supported HOPEww with donations. If you would like to help support our disaster response efforts, click below to donate.
