Bridge Christian Community is the ICOC church in Nelson Mandela Bay (NMB), a beautiful coastal city in South Africa nicknamed the “Friendly City.” We invite volunteers to help us build a family that draws people to Christ and makes a difference in our city.
The church started unconventionally 33 years ago, through the faith of a married sister (Noeleen Trollip) who was met and baptized in Cape Town. The church initially met in her home in NMB and grew steadily. Noeleen’s husband, Neil, became a disciple seven years after her, and they have led the church for the past 15 years as self-supporting “tentmakers.” The church is diverse in terms of language, culture, age, and financial means, and is experienced as a close, loving family with deep Bible teaching.
NMB is a transitional city where many people study and start their careers, before moving on to other cities. This trend has contributed to church membership declining to about 40, with some discouragement and disconnection setting in.
During an extended period of prayer and lament earlier this year, God encouraged the church through various signs. He also provided a fresh vision for the church, to be realized through a REVIVE campaign starting next year with REVIVE24.
If you wish to serve and grow spiritually while building deep friendships and wonderful memories, please consider:
- Volunteering for REVIVE24 and beyond. The emphasis is on Christian formation, and the focus of evangelizing is on young professionals and families who have put down roots in our city.
- Donating, since funds are needed to cover the living expenses of volunteers.
