Throughout the Bible, we read stories of men and women of faith who persevere through trials with the hope that God will come through with his amazing plan. When we read these stories, they inspire us to live faithfully. My hope is that this story will encourage you during these difficult times.
This story begins 13 years ago, when Jack Scheuerle and Tim Low met in primary school. The pair quickly became best mates. Jack was raised in the Gold Coast Church of Christ and desired for Tim to become a Christian, too. Jack would invite Tim to youth group hangouts. Jack never gave up and kept praying for his mate. “I always prayed that God would open his heart and show him the truth. It became a bedtime ritual”, said Jack. Looking back on it all, Tim said, “Jack always stuck by his faith. I certainly noticed a strong sense of morality and commitment. I always admired those traits about him.”
“In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven .” – Matthew 5:16
Over time, Tim began questioning if there was more to life. Jack, like he did so many times before, invited Tim along to church and he came. Before this, Tim said, “I never really considered Christianity, but this all changed when I studied the Bible with the guys.”
“So is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it .” – Isaiah 55:11
While Tim was skeptical and had a lot of questions, his heart was open, and he was seeking the truth. After a lot of studying, praying, and wrestling with the truth, Tim concluded that Christianity is true, and got baptized.
After 13 years, Jack’s prayer, became a reality. All the faith, love and prayer had come to fruition. Jack and Tim went from mates, to brothers in Christ. All who were able to witness it, were certainly moved and inspired by the story.
“My life has changed dramatically since becoming a disciple,” said Tim. “It’s no longer about me, but it’s about God and His will. I love the purpose I have in my life now; it transcends anything else this world has to offer. I love the security and hope I have now, as this life will ultimately mean something. I’m also very grateful for all the friendships I have with my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ.”
Since Tim’s baptism, Jack said, “Our relationship has only gotten stronger. We constantly lean on each other in our daily walk with God.” Tim added, “This journey further strengthened my friendship with Jack and I’m so grateful for all his support. I love how we are brothers in Christ and are constantly challenging each other and helping each other to grow in our faith.”
The story is not over yet! Tim’s girlfriend, Katie, started coming to church and was also baptized. Tim’s younger brother is also now studying the Bible.
God will continue to use this friendship and ones like to have phenomenal impact!
“When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dreamed. The Lord has done great things for us and we are filled with joy.” – Psalm 126:1-2
