For the first time in over a decade, over 100 students from 14 different countries in Europe gathered together over Easter weekend for a European Campus Conference here in Berlin, Germany. Initiated and organized by the Berlin Campus, the conference, entitled “UN,” greatly strengthened the bonds between the campus ministries from London, Oslo, Stockholm, Uppsala, Helsinki, Tallinn, Riga, Budapest, Munich, Berlin, Brussels, Paris, Geneva, Zurich, Milan and Madrid. “Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind”. Philippians 2:1-2 The conference, which was held from March 30th to April 2nd in a hostel in downtown Berlin, consisted of a variety of worship sessions, activities and classes taught by students:
- UNapologetic – Tristan Sleeper
- UNashamed – Nicholas Mamet
- UNmasked – Vicky Smith
- UNcovered – Shane McDowell
- UNlimited – Daniel Ginter
- UNknown – Jordan Fender
On the second night of the conference, word reached the Berlin Church of Christ that Scott Green, who together with his wife Lynne began leading the church here in 2014, had passed away. In light of the fact that Scott dreamt of seeing conferences like this take place in Europe again, the timing of his death was especially poignant. Looking forward, a number of the European ministries that attended the conference are currently collaborating to plan an even larger conference that will take place next year and may even earn the name ICMC Europe!
