Who we are:
We are a global group of disciples dreaming to see God’s transformative power in Rome and to establish a church in the heart of the city. To pursue this vision, a Rome Zoom group formed a few years ago, convening monthly to pray, discuss and strategize for this Rome Expedition and a future planting. We have engaged the European Mission Society and the Milan church for guidance and support as we develop our plans.
Just as Joshua and Caleb returned with uplifting news from their expedition (“Let’s go at once to take the land,” he said. “We can certainly conquer it!”) We have the same hope: that God will grant us similar encouragement as we explore the fertile ground for his kingdom in Rome.
Why we are going:
The urgency of this mission cannot be overstated. With nearly 60 million souls in Italy and just one church within our family of churches, the need is strikingly evident. Metro Rome, a six-hour drive from our church in Milan, has 4.3 million people, which would be the 15th largest US metro between Detroit and Seattle.
Despite approximately 80% of the population identifying with Catholicism, only 19% claim to attend church weekly. This glaring disparity underscores the pressing need for spiritual outreach and the establishment of more avenues for worship and community in Italy.
What are we planning:
During this one-week expedition, we will immerse ourselves in the heart of Rome, sharing, praying, and forging connections as we discern the path God has laid out for us and follow the leading of the Spirit. It’s a unique opportunity to engage with the culture and embrace the timeless allure of this city, with its rich history, delectable cuisine, and renowned arts scene.
