In the last study we looked at the problem of sin and the solution of grace. How are you doing with identifying your sins? (go back over the 3 areas of sin) We left off with the fact that the cross deserves a response. What is the right response?

ACTS 2:22-24

All of our sins put Jesus on the cross. We must take personal responsibility for the crucifixion.

Q: What is the righteous response to the cross?

ACTS 2:36-41

“cut to the heart.” Taking responsibility.
what shall we do?” eagerness to respond to God’s call

  1. We must repent, (turn away from sin)
  2. We must be baptized, (immersed in water) for the forgiveness of our sins and to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

1. REPENTANCE

The love and grace of God leads us there! (Titus 2:11-12)

Godly sorrow vs. worldly sorrow.
Q: What’s the difference? Which do I have?

LUKE 13:1-5

Repentance is personal. Unless YOU repent.

2. BAPTISM

Why baptism?

ROMANS 6:1-10

  • Sharing in the death, burial and resurrection of Christ
  • For us, “death” to sin, buried in water, raised to new life!
  • We receive the gift of God’s Holy Spirit at baptism.

COLOSSIANS 2: 11-12

In the Bible, baptism was an adult decision. Requires faith In God’s power.

GALATIANS 3:26-27

 “clothed” with Christ – The Holy Spirit wrapped around us.

1 PETER 3:18-22

Noah and his family saved through water. The flood symbolized baptism that now saves you also. The power is in the resurrection of Christ. The grace of God.

Question:

  • Looking at the Bible as your standard, where do you see yourself in terms of
    salvation?
  • Have you followed the plan of salvation God has laid out for us?

Assignment: Read Romans 6-8 and look at these:

  1. Entering a relationship with Christ
  2. Winning the battle with sin
