Are we grateful for social media? It’s a question we may struggle with as Christians because Romans 12:2 (NIV) tells us, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world” and the patterns on social media are of the world. But we also need to remember the prayer in John 17:15 that says “My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one” (John 17:15 NIV). So we need to be “in the world” and reveal our faith in God for others to see. And this is exactly our belief in the Lebanon Church of Christ! Astrid is a housekeeper who has lived with a Lebanese family for almost eight years. She has only two non-working days a month, and she doesn’t know anyone in the country. Yet that hasn’t stopped her from reading God’s Word and discovering on her own the plan of salvation. After meeting her, we truly saw that God has been the one who studied the Bible with her one-on-one. After discovering her need for baptism, she started searching for a church that teaches the same convictions she read in the Bible, but found none. So she prayed and fasted and God led her to our website, where she saw the posts and sent a message asking about the location of the church. Moufid, our church leader, immediately responded to her request to study the Bible by appointing one of the sisters to do that. Due to her work conditions, it was hard for her to leave the house and attend Bible studies. But she prayed and God answered. The family she works for left for a 10-day vacation, which allowed her to meet the sister during their absence. So they started studying daily and after less than a week, she declared Jesus Lord over her life and got baptized at church, meeting her brothers and sisters for the first time. Astrid saw the sovereignty of God in her story very similar to that of the Ethiopian man in the Book of Acts. She was seeking God with all her heart and God sent her Phillip in time to clarify her path to salvation. Her story inspired us to share more about how God is working in our lives on social media.
