Abilene Christian University has invited the International Churches of Christ to partner with them due to our common history in the Restoration Movement or Stane-Campbell Heritage. Abilene Christian is a highly accredited university that upholds the Bible as the inspired word of God and promotes a biblical worldview. The partnership means students from the ICOC receive discounts and scholarships to attend ACU. I personally attended Abilene to gain my doctorate in ministry. I cherish the relationships and the theological education I gained from Abilene Christian. I am also an adjunct professor in their Graduate School of Theology. I teach a class entitled, “Foundations for the Theology of Ministry.” This class assists students to realize their own practical theology as a “North Star” to guide them in ministry.

My personal practical theology is based on the cross of Christ. The death, burial and resurrection of Jesus reveal to me a God of righteousness, faithfulness, and mercy. These three descriptors simplify for me the nature of God. God is always righteous, faithful, and merciful. The three overriding qualities of God are true always. God is always righteous or holy. God is always faithful and good. God is always merciful and gracious. The three virtues are in tension or in “trialectic.” A ministry is balanced and healthy when we imitate God as holy, good, and gracious.
