If you’re up for an adventure in Alaska, want a unique experience, and are ready to make an impact, you need to check this out.

Alaskan mountain.

The Anchorage Great Land Christian Church seeks a full-time minister to serve the church and continue writing the amazing GLCC story. We are looking for a minister or couple who can build relationships, provide spiritual leadership, and shepherd the church for a minimum of a year. The church has had positive experiences with both short-term and long-term ministry staff, so we are open to either.

We recognize that a position in Alaska presents a unique opportunity, and therefore, we are willing to consider a wide range of candidates. Don’t let your experience, life situation, or ability to commit long-term stop you from applying.

We are a group of faithful Christians who are committed to the success of our minister and the well-being of our church family. Success may look different for different candidates, but let’s look at what the first year could be like for you.

You’ll spend the first three months getting settled into Anchorage and the church. Here’s what
you’ve done so far:

  • You’ve met with all the church members.
  • You have started conducting regular meetings with a leadership team.
  • You’ve helped establish a consistent format for Sunday services that fits your style.
  • You have created an annual plan that includes Sunday topics and special services.

After six months with the church, you are expanding your circle of relationships and meeting the needs of the church.

  • You have started building relationships with members in the Wasilla and Fairbanks churches. You’ve visited their churches and planned an Anchorage service for them to attend.
  • You have worked with the married members and planned a marriage retreat.
  • Members of the church have started reaching out to those who aren’t coming on a regular basis. Attendance for Sunday services is improving.
  • You’ve helped the leadership team grow in confidence and commitment. They are working well with you and the board.

One year in, you pause and reflect on the progress. Here is what you notice has changed.

  • The church has continued to stabilize in membership. Members are even more committed and engaged.
  • Sunday services feel energized, and regular attendance continues to grow. People are studying the Bible and members feel excited for the future.
  • The church has organized and conducted a community service project.
  • Anchorage has hosted an all-Alaska service that fostered deeper relationships across the churches.

That’s just year one! You’ve made a difference and built wonderful relationships along the way. Working with the board of directors, you can decide what’s next.

Our church is currently at approximately 40 members. Over the past several years, the church experienced a decline in membership, but a solid core remains who are committed to the fellowship and a renewed focus on their own personal spiritual growth. Over the last 10 years, we have planted independent but cooperating congregations in Fairbanks and Wasilla. We also built a 100-acre camp about 100 miles north of Anchorage with the help of our family in those other congregations.

The church will consider a range of candidates, and individuals or couples are encouraged to apply. If you are interested, please submit a letter of interest and resume to [email protected]. Additional information about church demographics, job descriptions, and other considerations can be provided during the application process.
