Then I heard a voice from heaven say, “Write this: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.” “Yes,” says the Spirit, “they will rest from their labor, for their deeds will follow them.” – Revelation 14:13
Another great servant has gone home to be with the Lord. Dr. Ken Lowey passed into eternity on January 1, 2025 after a long battle with cancer. Ken was one of my dearest friends and someone I longed to imitate. His incredible spirit of faith, joy, vision and love inspired generations of people in his family, church and profession. He had been serving as Co-Chair of the Board of HOPE worldwide. Ken leaves an indelible legacy as reported in this obituary in The Boston Globe:
Kenneth Lowey obituary
Kenneth Michael Lowey, beloved doctor of chiropractic, husband, father, and Papa. Ken Lowey, a chiropractor and business owner whose humanitarian work touched thousands of lives in Massachusetts and abroad, died Jan. 1, at his home in Westwood, from complications of cancer. He was 67. Dr. Lowey was a well-known and successful figure in his community, but most deeply cherished his large family, his faith in God and serving others.
Dr. Lowey co-founded Newton Center Chiropractic, in 1981, with his identical twin brother, Kevin Lowey, and was later joined by his son, Drew Lowey, now a partner in the practice. A sought-after authority in his field, he lectured at Harvard Medical School and Bentley College, among other institutions. He was a past president of the Greater Boston Chiropractic Society and was twice named chiropractor of the year by the Massachusetts Chiropractic Society.
But it was through relationships and service that Dr. Lowey found his greatest fulfillment. He was a member of the Boston Church of Christ for most of his adult life and dedicated himself fully to his faith and to the members, most notably in his role as the deacon of benevolence for the church. Dr. Lowey served on the board of directors of HOPE worldwide for many years, and was Chairman of the Board at the time of his passing. He also served as the Executive Director of HOPE worldwide Massachusetts. His work with these organizations included multiple service trips to Central America (more than 10 visits to El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras), and initiatives such as the HOPE Framingham Food Pantry, which supports roughly 400 families per month. Dr. Lowey also led the formation of the Boston Benevolent Chiropractic Clinic, which provides free care to people who otherwise could not afford treatment, including at the Rosie’s Place women’s shelter. Additionally, he helped establish the BEL Library Project in Uganda, which helps to educate young girls. Unbowed by his cancer diagnosis, Dr. Lowey remained active in civic, church and family life in recent years.

He and his wife, Anne, hosted more than 30 relatives on Thanksgiving, and he relished sleepovers, playdates and swim lessons with their grandchildren. His three children and six grandchildren were his greatest joy. Kenneth Michael Lowey was born on Nov. 1, 1957, in New York City, to German Jewish immigrants Warner and Judith Lowey. He grew up in Kendall Park, N.J., and attended South Brunswick High School, Western Maryland College and Logan College of Chiropractic in Chesterfield, MO, completing his studies in 1981. The next year he married classmate and love of his life Anne Curran. The Loweys settled in Massachusetts and became fixtures in their community. Together, they led Bible studies and marriage classes. A former high school and collegiate soccer goalie, Dr. Lowey took up running and he completed the Boston Marathon in 1995. He coached youth soccer and baseball, mentoring a generation of Red Sox fans-and even popping a bottle of champagne when the Sox broke the Curse of the Bambino in 2004-despite his lifelong loyalty to the New York Yankees. Tall and athletic, he looked the part in a pinstripe uniform at Yankees Fantasy Camp in Tampa, FL, in 2008. Rumors that the Yanks offered him a contract to replace Alex Rodriguez were never confirmed.
Dr. Lowey was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Anne Lowey; daughter, Bridget Koha and husband, Tobias of Lexington; son, Aaron Lowey of Millis; son, Drew Lowey and wife, Brittany of Walpole; six grandchildren, Emily, Maisey and Elizabeth Koha and Casey, Mae and Adam Lowey; brother, Kevin Lowey and wife, Jane of Brewster; and brother, Keith Lowey and wife, Lisa of Medway. A private family memorial service will be held in January. A celebration of life is planned for March. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dr. Lowey’s memory may be made to HOPE Framingham Food Pantry.
