The 2019 Mexican Conference was very exciting! More than 2,000 disciples of Jesus from all over Mexico gathered at the Toluca Convention Center on July 19- 21. The opening video with images and typical songs of our culture and our “beautiful and beloved Mexico” made me excited about each one of the churches throughout the Mexican Republic. You could hear disciples shout with happiness and raise their arms when they saw the name of their own church.

Several days before the conference, leaders of the Mexican churches gathered to have a great time of training, fellowship, and great connection, as well as catching up with the good news of what that God is doing in his kingdom in the country. Important decisions were made about new brothers serving in delegate roles. After two days of training and connection, we were ready for the conference.

Several churches from the US were also present since they planted the ICOC in Mexico 32 years ago! We have seen many great wonders since 1987 when 13 missionaries arrived from Boston.

The theme of the conference was “Eklektos,” which is a Greek word that means “chosen.” This title was selected by some words in the Bible that fill us with deep joy and gratitude: ” You are a family chosen by God…” – 1 Peter 2:9.

Highlights of the weekend included two performances from the State of Mexico Ballet company, incredible messages from leaders around Mexico and the U.S., a youth and campus party, a networking event, and a worship concert with three bands, and 32 classes in different blocks, like teaching, family ministries, spiritual growth, social networks, media, worship, and more.

There was a tribute for very beloved brothers who already finished their spiritual careers. We remembered with great affection Lupita Zamora, who served for more than 30 years in Mexico City, and Luis Méndez, an elder of the San Diego Church of Christ. Luis was a key piece in the organization of the Mexican Conference. He always helped maintain the unity of national leadership and served as a bridge between the Mexico and churches.

We also honored José Zapata, leader of the church in Mexicali, as a teacher.

We deeply thank God for the great opportunity to take such a great step of unity and faith and love in the family of churches of the Mexican Republic. We believe that whoever started the work is taking it to the best end we can imagine. Please pray for our beloved church in Mexico.

We look forward to the next Mexican Conference in 2021 in Cuernavaca, Morelos. We wait for you all with open arms, and to our great God be all the glory for loving us with such radical love and being his chosen ones!
