Some prayers take years to answer. Some seeds sown in faith remain hidden for decades. But God never forgets them. Just 40 days after faithfully finishing her earthly race, the lifelong prayer of the late Bukayo Adegboye was answered. For more than 30 years, Bukayo shared the gospel with her elder brother, Adedeji (Deji) Adegboye, praying that he would surrender his life to Christ.
A week before her passing, she urged the church evangelist to keep reaching out to him, unaware it would be one of her final requests. In God’s providence, Deji cared for his sister in her final days and witnessed the faith, humility, and devotion that had marked her life.
After her funeral, he approached the evangelist and asked to study the Bible. As he reflected on Bukayo’s consistent example, he became convinced it was time to follow Christ. After faithfully studying the Scriptures and seeking God, Deji confessed Jesus as Lord and was baptized into Christ.
His conversion is a powerful reminder that faithful obedience continues to bear fruit long after God’s servants have gone home to be with him. The Bible reminds us: “So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow” — 1 Corinthians 3:6–7 (NIV).
Now a disciple himself, Deji longs to share the gospel with his father, a traditional king, who has begun exploring the Scriptures, as well as his wife and siblings, who have expressed interest in studying the Bible. What began with one faithful disciple may, by God’s grace, become the testimony of an entire family.
