“The name of Yahweh is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are protected.” Proverbs 18: 10

This summer, 230 women dug deeply into God’s word, learning more about God’s names and his nature. The women of the Broward church (part of the South Florida Church of Christ) retreated to an oceanfront hotel in Melbourne, Florida, enjoying a weekend of fellowship with God and one another. Lessons and classes focused on El Roi (the God who sees), Adonai (the Lord), Jehovah Rapha (God who heals) and Yahweh, which is the ultimate statement of self-sufficiency, “I AM.”

Breakout classes designed to address women’s concerns at different life-stages were taught by a diverse team of multi-generational disciples. From the sunrise beach devotional co-led by a 26-year-old and a grandmother, to the poignant personal testimony of an 82-year-old great-grandmother, all the messages resonated with honest accounts of what it means to have a real relationship with God.

Retreat fellowship ranks in a class by itself, and the weekend program made space for girlfriends’ hang time as well as new friend connections. After a moving worship night featuring songs of praise and spontaneous scripture reading and prayer, the women cleared the floor and turned up the tunes for a dance party!

During the Sunday morning worship message, we were challenged that if we truly know God by name, then we will make his name known! God’s mission will always be to reveal who he is to people, through his people who “know him by name.”
