DT Travel had an amazing trip to Southern Africa. Twenty-eight of us spent time serving, watching wild game, worshiping, sightseeing, learning, and creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Our trip began in Johannesburg, South Africa, where we were able to worship with the congregation there. Ron and Lavonia Drabot, who served as spiritual directors for our trip, had served and led the church there from 1988-1991. It was so wonderful to walk in the doors and know we have family we’ve never met. Songs were sung in four languages (about a third of South Africa’s official tongues).
The next two days were spent volunteering with HOPE worldwide South Africa, which is serving in incredible ways and making a huge difference while partnering with local communities.

We then moved on to Pilanesberg National Park, where we were treated to twice-daily game drives, as well as breakfast and dinner-time views of the “locals” (elephants, impala, etc) visiting the watering hole adjacent to the restaurant. I lost track of how many different species of animals we were able to view from our jeeps, including some very close encounters with a herd of elephants, and a pride of lions fresh from their most recent meal.

Next, we flew to Cape Town, which has been called the world’s most beautiful city. Highlights included visiting the Cape Town church, riding to the top of Table Mountain, and touring Robben Island, the former prison where Nelson Mandela was held for 18 years for his fight against racial segregation.
While some flew back home following Cape Town, others extended our trip to Victoria Falls, one of the largest waterfalls in the world, on the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe. More animal encounters, some adventurous excursions (micro-flights, a dip in Devil’s Pool), a traditional Boma dinner, and lots of great fellowship ensued.
We sure hope you can join us on one of DT Travel’s upcoming trips for some memory-making of your own. In 2026, we’ll travel to Bali in May, and in September, follow the footsteps of Paul on a Mediterranean cruise.
