Dear ICOC family,

Jamaica just faced one of the worst natural disasters in its history. A Category 5 hurricane marched over the western part of the island with devastating effect.

Several disciples had significant property damage, but communication has been difficult so we are unable to make a complete assessment. The emotional trauma and the anxiety of not being able to contact relatives are creating psychological distress. Most of the island is without electricity, many roads are blocked, many people are without shelter, and the lines at gas stations are long. We will be creating a schedule of items needed to provide relief, especially in the form of home repairs and shelter, in the coming days,  but there is an urgent need for generators. Import duty and General Consumption Tax for material and equipment for hurricane relief have been waived for one month. Those who wish to make a contribution to the relief effort can do so through HOPE worldwide, at the Caribbean Missions Society’s website or contact the church office in Kingston via email ([email protected]) to get wire instructions. The road to recovery will be long, so pray for social order, goodwill and patience to be exercised along the way. Please continue to pray for the safety and speedy recovery from this disaster for all the people of Jamaica.
